Lighthouse’s French department has specialist French-English bilingual classes from CP to CM2, our qualified and passionate teachers offer flexible teaching adapted to each student, in accordance with the National Education. The aim is mastery of both languages whilst completing the curriculum and aiming for top grades. Our French Department at Lighthouse Phuket is headed by bilingual Jean de La Fontaine. We have small dedicated classes with a maximum of 12 students.

Julien (BLIECQ Director) & CM1 CM Teacher founded Jean de La Fontaine French Bilingual School, fulfilling his childhood dream of creating an intimate educational environment. Originally a chemical engineer, he shares his passion for science through educational holiday programs with collective learning experiences in France and internationally.

Balanced Bilingual Program
Students adapt confidently to any educational environment, benefiting from our balanced bilingual program: 60% French, 40% English instruction. Our school exceeds national curriculum standards, developing advanced transferable skills and individuality. Native speakers teach with subjects like history, geography, and mathematics progressively introduced in English.

F rench Bilingual program goes further than the National Education curriculum. The key emphasis is creative learning. It’s a unique opportunity to offer excellent linguistic tools to develop clear spoken words and understand text to a much greater depth. We limit “closed activities” and restrictive instructions which we believe hinder longer term ability. readers, speakers and writers.

English class students quickly acquire command of the language with a fluent and natural practice, both orally and in writing, using an action-oriented approach that places the student in concrete, fun and stimulating educational environment.

Maths students will complete the National Education program and discover the first elements of the upper classes. Our approach to mathematics is varied, interdisciplinary & fun. and practical contexts.

History class covers global history with a strong influence of the history of France and its notable people. Some Canadian history is added to the course. The main ethos is fun, engaging study with stories about people, places, and events that are told in a way that captures their imagination. Specific individuals for example Napoleon Bonaparte, Cleopatra & Jacques Cartier a French explorer who in 1534 paved the way for settlemement in Canada. We depict their adventures, struggles, and triumphs. Student engage in crafts and projects whilst incorporating multicultural perspectives.

Geography class uses interactive maps and digital tools like Google Earth first with familiar places; home, school, Phuket island, and then expand to province, country, and world maps. Country of the week focus and flags with immersive cultural study. We incorporate creativity by build iconic models and planets. We teach things that relate to everyday life such as the water cycle, weather patterns. We connect geography with biology by exploring the natural habitats of animals in different regions of the world.

Science classes are fun, students conduct exciting experiments, explore ecosystems, and uncover the mysteries of matter, energy, and Earth’s incredible systems. From investigating living organisms to building structures and understanding forces, children become inquisitive and develop a passion for understanding. Activities include hands-on labs, outdoor projects like growing plants in the garden, research projects, children develop curiosity and critical thinking skills while exploring the fascinating world around them and beyond.

Physical Education (PE) really gets kids moving and develops physical skills with wide variety of training exercises, sports and team challenges. Our primary campus features indoor climbing walls, new artifical football pitch and covered sports court area for basketball volleyball and badminton. With healthy competition, children build confidence, teamwork, and resilience. PE isn’t just exercise—it’s where champions are made and friendships flourish.

Arts and Creative focus’s on children’s creativity, imagination, and self-expression through art, music, dance, role-play, and technology, split into “Exploring and Using Media and Materials” and “Being Imaginative,” encouraging experimentation with different sensory experiences, sounds, colours, and textures to develop communication, understanding, and unique ideas.
Thai Language
Thai language students at Lighthouse primary develop proficiency in through comprehensive instruction in speaking, reading, and writing. Our curriculum integrates Thai script practice with cultural understanding. Experienced native Thai teachers deliver engaging lessons that build vocabulary, grammar, and conversational skills. Learning Thai enhances students’ cross-cultural competence and deepens their appreciation of Thailand’s rich heritage while living in Phuket.
